Re “Expert Opinions, From Neutral Observers” While I frequently appreciate your principled analysis, today’s thought process was an especially evenhanded discussion of a very complex issue.The complexity of the matters giving rise to and exacerbating this economic crisis is nearly beyond the understanding of even most New York Times readers. To do justice to The Times and its readers on most any of the aspects of the crisis would truly require broadsheet-sized news stories to supply the facts necessary for readers to really be able to arrive at informed opinions.While there is some continuity of theme to all these events — greed, absence of regulation, cheap money, irresponsible lending and management and so on — the nuance is massive and nearly impossible to explore in 1,000 words.
