Denny Is Accused

A sports reporter for The Cincinnati Post accused John Denny, a pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds, of assault last night, saying Denny ''went crazy'' and banged the reporter's head against a wall. Bruce Schoenfeld, a 24-year-old reporter, told the police he had met Denny before the Reds' game against the Philadelphia Phillies while walking through a tunnel that leads onto the playing field at Veterans Stadium.

Bruce Schoenfeld, a sports reporter for The Cincinnati Post who charged that his neck was grabbed and his head was banged against a wall by John Denny in a hallway under Veterans Stadium Wednesday night before a game in Philadelphia, has filed a criminal complaint against the Reds pitcher for simple assault, making terroristic threats and harassment. A hearing will be held before a trial commissioner, and if the two sides cannot settle the dispute, Denny will face criminal charges.
